Field House win ‘Palliative or End of Life’ Award

Everyone at Field House was delighted to discover we are the winners of the ‘Palliative or End of Life’ award at the Worcestershire Health & Social Care Awards 2022.

The awards, held on Thursday night (13th October), are sponsored by the University of Worcester to celebrate our health and care sectors, and we were delighted to be a part of it.

The ‘Palliative or End of Life’ award was given to a person or team offering the highest quality palliative care in Worcestershire and recognised that the person being cared for and their family is central to the service and care delivered.

Palliative care in Worcestershire - how Field House can provide support

As one of the best residential care homes in Stourbridge, we offer palliative care for residents with a terminal illness who are close to the end of their journey. Dealing with pain and other physical symptoms is important, but when providing palliative care at Field House, and all of our other homes too, we believe that maximising the resident’s overall well-being and supporting them emotionally is extremely important.

The decision to begin palliative care is a collaboration between the healthcare team, family members and wherever possible, the individual. If someone has received all the treatments that might change the course of their illness or deterioration, the next step is to focus on comfort and quality of life.

One person who nominated us for this award stated that they “could not have wished for a more perfect end to my husband’s life”, which is the highest praise possible. She went on to recall how she was kept up to date with her husband’s condition thanks to being able to access minute by minute updates in our digital care planning system, and despite the pandemic had unrestricted visiting during his last few days including being able to stay with him in his room. These are services we will make available to all residents and their families when they come to the end of their journey with us at Field House, and we are so delighted to hear how much comfort we bring at this difficult time.

On receiving the award, Anna Demicoli our Registered Manager, said “it’s absolutely fantastic that the staff have been recognised for all their hard work and that we’ve been able to support families at this very difficult time.”
